WorldForge accepted into Google Summer of Code 2010

Just like in the previous two years, Google has decided to accept WorldForge into the Google Summer of Code. Interested students can spend their summer break flipping code not burgers at WorldForge. See our project proposals page for some ideas of what you could work on. If you have your own idea, don’t hesitate to come to the WorldForge general mailinglist to discuss your idea.

While student applications won’t open until March 29th (see the GSoC timeline), the sooner you contact us, the better.

We’re looking forward to your project proposals.

Cyphesis 0.5.22 Release

Cyphesis version 0.5.22 has been released and is now available from the WorldForge download site.

Cyphesis is a small to medium scale server for WorldForge games, with builtin AI. This version includes the demo game Mason which is currently in development. This release is intended for server administrators wishing to run a Mason server and World developers developing new worlds or game systems.

Major changes in this version:

The persistent server ruleset can now be fully managed from clients.
The administrative security model has been improved.
The test suite has been expanded massively.
Lots of bugs have been fixed.

Cyphesis version 0.5.21 has been released and is now available from the WorldForge download site.

Major changes in this version:

Fishing tasks and AI have been implemented.
Tasks can now be controlled more finely by the player.
The Python API is now much simpler.
Terrain is now handled much more cleanly.
Test coverages is much more complete.
Lots of bugs have been fixed.

Cyphesis version 0.5.19 has been released and is now available from the WorldForge download site.

Major changes in this version:

Unused characters are now removed from the world after a short time.
Re-populating the world after a restart checks for persistent world features.
A database tool has been added to simplify admin tasks.
A python command line tool has been added to send python commands to the server.
The entire codebase has been cleaned up.

Cyphesis version 0.5.17 has been released and is now available from the WorldForge download site.

Major changes in this version:

Terrain modifiers are now fully supported.

A new persistence backend has been written and is in testing.

Properties have been re-written to be way more efficient.

Internal metrics and monitors are now exposed using http.

Registration with the metaserver is now much more reliable.

Simulation is now jittered to make CPU load much smoother.

Lots of bugs have been fixed.

Major changes in this version:

A protocol for activating mechanisms has been implemented.

The memory footprint of a server has been significantly reduced.

The obsolete dysfunctional persistence layer has been removed.

The code has been refactored to have much more sensible class names.

A number of bugs have been fixed.

Major changes in this version:

Players can now create their own roads.

The script API has been made much simpler.

It is now trivial to run multiple servers on one machine.

Memory usage has been reduced.

A huge number of bugs have been fixed.

Cyphesis version 0.5.14 has been released and is now available from the WorldForge download site.

Major changes in this version:

The rule definition file format is simpler to edit, and loads more reliably.

Rules files have been broken down into more intuitive categories.

A number of new standard properties are now available to world builders.

A feature has been added allowing the full list of goals an NPC has to be queried.

The surface details of the terrain are now defined by data, not hard coded.

The server will now still start if the configuration file cannot be read.

A bug that broke deer behavior has been fixed.
