In November 1998, the Altima project was announced on slashdot with the intention of being the GPL equivalent of Ultima Online. About a year later under a new name and with the new goal of creating the first MMORPG engine as Free Software, the WorldForge project became more recognisable as it is today.

Mason 0.3 has now been released
After nearly 18 months, Sear 0.6.0 is released. As can be expected from
such a long development time, there have been many changes. Perhaps the
most important (and the most asked for) being the addition of a GUI
system for Sear covering the tasks of logging in to a server, creating
and account and a character as well as some in game functionality too.
Cyphesis version 0.5.4 has been released and is now available from the WorldForge download site.

The latest WFUT (WorldForge Update Tool) now supports internationalisation for the GUI components. WFUT is a small Java application that downloads updated files from a normal webserver. It is currently used by Sear to keep its media up to date, and hosts the nightly CVS builds of Sear for Linux and Windows platforms.
